ANTIOCH – On Wednesday, a 27 year-old Oakley man was taken into custody for causing an accident while driving impaired that left 4 individuals severely injured, including a 5-year-old.
The cops were alerted around 8:14 a.m. about the 3-car collision that occurred on E 18th Street near Viera Ave. When they approached the accident spot, they found 3 damaged cars and 4 individuals with severe injuries.
The Oakley man was driving at a high rate of speed and was travelling eastbound on E 18th Street when his car rear-ended an SUV that had just pulled into the street. The SUV overturned multiple times and it hit the 3rd car while overturning.
Two females travelling in the SUV, aged 52-year-old and 30-year-old, were rushed to the local hospital as they were complaining of pain. The 5-year-old was riding in the 3rd vehicle which was struck by the SUV. He was sent to the hospital through helicopter. His 32-year-old female guardian was also injured, she was also sent with him.
It is not yet confirmed whether the condition of the injured is stable or not.
According to the police, the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.
